Portrait Reveal vs Pixieset

Pixieset will show your client a canvas in a nicely styled sample lounge. Portrait Reveal shows it in their lounge, on the wall above their sofa, at the size they’d be ordering. For wall art, that difference decides the sale.

Pixieset is where a lot of photographers start, and many never leave. The galleries look good, the free plan is generous, and you can run your website and bookings from the same account. If most of your income comes from wall art, though, the part that matters is what the client sees just before they choose a size.

Why their own wall matters

A sample room answers the wrong question

Pixieset added its room preview because, in its own words, clients tend to buy wall art that’s too small. That’s exactly right. A sample room helps a little, but it shows the client what a 30-inch canvas looks like in someone else’s house. They still have to guess how it’ll look above their own sofa, with their ceiling height and their furniture.

In Portrait Reveal the client sends a photo of the actual wall, and the portrait appears on it, framed and to scale. They can compare a single large piece with a set of three and see which suits the room. The size question mostly answers itself once they can see it.

You can sell with the client, not just to them

A Pixieset gallery does its selling while you’re somewhere else. Portrait Reveal also works in a sales appointment, at your studio or their kitchen table: their wall on one screen, you designing the collection with them on the other. If they want time to decide, the same gallery goes home as a private link and they can order and pay from there.

One price that doesn’t grow with your archive

Pixieset’s price is set by how much you store, so it climbs as your client list does: 10 GB on Basic, 100 GB on Plus, and so on up to US$50 a month. Portrait Reveal is US$14.99 a month on one plan, with Stripe payments, Afterpay where eligible, and no commission.

Where Pixieset is better

Pixieset is a whole studio platform. It has a website builder, booking and invoicing through Studio Manager, a mobile gallery app for clients, and lab integrations that print and ship orders for you. Its free plan is genuinely useful if you’re starting out, and Basic is cheaper than us.

Portrait Reveal does one job: helping a portrait client choose the right wall art for their home, and taking payment for it. If that’s where your income comes from, it’s worth running alongside Pixieset, or instead of Pixieset’s gallery for your portrait sessions.
