Portrait Reveal vs Pic-Time

Pic-Time is very good at delivering a gallery and selling prints from it. What it can’t do is show your client a 40-inch canvas above their own fireplace before they order it. Portrait Reveal is built around that moment.

If you shoot weddings, Pic-Time is probably already in your workflow, and for good reason. Portrait work is different. A family session can lead to a single wall art order worth more than the shoot itself, and whether that order happens depends on the client being able to picture the piece in their home. A gallery of thumbnails and a size dropdown leaves them guessing.

Where the sale is won

The client sees it on their own wall

In Pic-Time, a client picks an image, picks a product and picks a size. The preview shows the canvas or frame on its own, so they still have to work out whether 30 inches is too small for the space above the sofa. Most people play it safe and choose the smaller size, or buy the digital files and plan to sort out printing later.

In Portrait Reveal, the client sends a photo of their wall and the portrait appears on it, framed, at true scale. They can try a single large piece or a three-piece collection and see which one suits the room. When the bigger size clearly looks right, they tend to order it.

It works in the room and from a link

Pic-Time is an online gallery, so the selling happens without you. Portrait Reveal can run a proper sales appointment: the client’s wall on a second screen, you designing alongside them on yours. If they want to sleep on it, the same gallery goes home as a private link and they can order and pay from there.

One price, no cut

Pic-Time’s Beginner plan is cheap at US$8 a month, but it keeps 15% of your markup on every store sale. Removing that means moving to Professional at $25 a month and handling payment collection yourself. Portrait Reveal is US$14.99 a month with Stripe built in, Afterpay included where eligible, and no commission on anything.

What a year costs

Illustrative, using monthly billing. Pic-Time’s commission is charged on your markup (what you charge minus the lab cost), so the first column is markup, not total sales.

Markup on wall art per yearPortrait RevealPic-Time Beginner ($96/yr + 15%)Pic-Time Professional ($300/yr)
US$5,000$180$846$300
US$10,000$180$1,596$300
US$20,000$180$3,096$300

Once you’re selling real volume, Professional is the sensible Pic-Time plan, and the cost gap with Portrait Reveal is about US$120 a year. That isn’t the main reason to choose us. One extra wall art upgrade a year covers it, and showing clients the piece on their own wall is how you get that upgrade.

Where Pic-Time is better

Pic-Time does a lot that Portrait Reveal doesn’t try to. It has integrated labs that print and ship orders without you touching them, email campaigns that nudge clients back to the gallery, video hosting, and gallery designs that suit a 600-image wedding. If you mostly deliver large event galleries and sell the occasional print, it’s a strong choice.

Portrait Reveal is narrower on purpose. It’s for portrait photographers whose income depends on wall art, and every part of it is aimed at helping the client choose a bigger, better piece for their home. You can run both: keep Pic-Time for weddings, and use Portrait Reveal for the sessions where the order matters.
